Presse - Große Gruppe - Sausages and beer as Crawley celebrates 40 years as Dorsten's twin town (erstellt am 28.07.2013 von www.crawleynews.co.uk)

A CELEBRATION of English and German passions from vintage sports cars to Bavarian
sausages brought down the curtain on festivities to mark the 40th anniversary of
Crawley's twinning with Dorsten. In 1973 Crawley signed a twinning agreement with
the German town, which is north of Dortmund and Dusseldorf. To mark the
anniversary 35 members of the Dorsten Town Twinning Association made a week-long
trip to Crawley. Our German guests were taken on trips to Brighton, Windsor and the
Weald and Downland Open Air Museum in Chichester. They were also shown some much-
loved beauty spots closer to home, including Tilgate Park and Buchan Country Park.
Iain Millar, chairman of Crawley Town Twinning Association, said: "Our German
friends loved getting a taste of our English traditions and culture. "While on our
day trip to Rottingdean, the marina and Brighton we treated our guests to a fish
and chip lunch which they all loved. "Then before exploring the castle in Windsor
we had a pub lunch which again went down a storm. Trying our food is one of the
main reasons they came. "The link between Crawley and Dorsten first came about to
improve relations between the countries and they were paired due to both being new
towns of a similar size. "This connection has come in handy over the years to help
share ideas. On this visit our visitors from Dorsten were interested in how as a
town we raise funds for St Catherine's Hospice. They have a similar set up but a
hospice shop was new to them." Before returning to Germany the guests were treated
to a "surprise" festival in Queens Square on Saturday, which hundreds of people
attended. There was entertainment for all the family including a performance from
Heather Illidge, winner of last year's Crawley's Got Talent contest, href="https://www.handvaskorkopior.com/">märkesväskor kopior online and music
from the band OUWE XL, who are from Dorsten. Irish dancers, a barbershop quartet
and Bhangra dancers also performed. Vintage British sports cars, including a 1973
MGB, and modern German cars such as the latest 2013 BMWs were also on display. And
stalls were selling the best in English and German food including Bavarian and
British sausages, as well as strawberries and cream.
